America’s Pastime Knows No Borders

Even though baseball is America’s pastime, it’s hardly ours alone. Like America, baseball is the perfect melting pot of personalities, cultures, and languages. It’s the perfect sport for those reasons – and many, many, many more.

The contribution of Latin American and Hispanic baseball players can’t be understated. They have been a part of Major League Baseball for more than 120 years and include names like Roberto Clemente, Vladimir Guerrero, Mariano Rivera, Juan Marichal, and we could go on for a long time…

It’s why we were grateful to see the AAA-affiliate Albuquerque Isotopes transform into the “Mariachis de Nuevo Mexico” this past weekend. The Isotopes adopted the moniker for select games starting in 2018 including special uniforms and celebrations since then, celebrating that culture’s unique contribution to baseball and our communities. It’s yet another way baseball, in our opinion, continues to be the best sport not played on ice skates and America’s pastime. (Just watch out for their spicy tamales!) Cheers!
