The Sweet Life Only Gets Sweeter When We Slow Down Just a Little More
Most of what we know about relaxation, which is basically nothing, we learned from watching TV. We spend hours surfing between elimination challenges to rapid-fire Q&As to sports, which is so relaxed that fractions of seconds apparently matter. Oh, and here’s a quick break to bring you this message from our sponsor whose Doorbusting Sales Event ends in 3…2…
We’ve adapted TV to our timelines by mastering the art of recording separate shows to fast-forward through some stuff to get to other stuff, skip the commercials, and fire up a picture-in-picture display because what if we’re missing some other stuff? Heaven help us if we’re second-screening with our phones or tablets to pummel our attention span into the goldfish zone.
Once we’ve crossed an unknown threshold of consuming stuff in our lives, we’re allowed to “relax,” which obviously means “retire.” When we retire, we can get to the stuff we’ve really been meaning to get around to but may require more screens. We’ll let you know when we retire, sometime around 2095.
We took a break from our stuff in Italy recently and discover
ed good stuff is live all the time. It doesn’t require a new subscription or a new screen. The good stuff happens when time slows down, not when it speeds up.
