Update: Swinging Into Spring
You’re Never too Old to Feel Young Again
Last week, we told you about Photography G’s annual rite of spring: taking in Spring Training baseball in Arizona. This week we have more good news to report.
While attending a game in sunny Arizona, soaking in the Vitamin D and sounds of America’s pastime, we were honored with a special gift. Everyone, whether young or young-at-heart, hopes to snag a baseball from a major league game. A souvenir, sure. But snagging a baseball is more than that. Getting a baseball at a game is a direct line between the professionals we cheer on every day and us. A simple reminder that baseball is a glove, a bat, and a ball and can happen anywhere. A rubber cork, yarn, cowhide, and 108 stitches. (And yes, that’s twice around a Catholic rosary.)
Back to the game. While taking in a game last week, Garrett spotted Bruce Bochy, the sure-fire hall-of-fame manager for the Texas Rangers and four-time World Series-winning manager, off in the distance. Bruce’s head is famously huge (he wears an 8 1/2-size baseball hat), and not because he’s the only batter to hit a walk-off homer against pitching legend Nolan Ryan. Bochy sauntered up and tossed a ball to Garrett. Talk about a catch you don’t want to miss!
We’re grateful to Bochy, Arizona, and baseball for coming back in the spring. We’re never too old to feel like a kid again!
