Keep On Rockin’
Even After 25 Years, The Hits Still Sound The Same and The Pics Look Just As Sweet
To celebrate Photography G’s 25-year anniversary, we’re dipping back into the archives for one of Garrett’s favorite memories of photographing concerts. (See more stunning concert shots at PhotographyG.com)
Here’s how G tells it himself:
“Fast-forward a few years from my first Gregg Allman encounter (which we discussed a few weeks ago, right here) and I hadn’t yet ascended to the level of “credentialed concert photographer.” I didn’t mind much because I had developed skills to sneak in my cameras, and being in the right place always pays off. In the pursuit of a budding career as a concert photographer “doing whatever it takes” is part of the gig. (I don’t even mind the heads in the foreground, which I left in because I like the look.)
The photo above is a fan favorite and Photography G bestseller. Neil Young’s right-hand man, Gordon “Smokey” Potis, once told me that Neil himself said it was one of the better shots of himself in concert. High praise from a legend and Hall of Fame rocker!
My memory of this photo hasn’t faded at all. I still remember the song, “Rockin’ In The Free World,” even after 25 years. It’s unforgettable and I’m blessed to have photographed some of the world’s best musicians as a professional photographer — albeit one trapped in a musician’s body!”
