CASTing a Wider Net for Successful Students
Different Learners Require Different Approaches
For the millions of children back in school, millions of ready learners are waiting to discover the world around them. And just like every child is unique, every way each child learns is unique, too.
For too long, children with unique needs — at every end of the spectrum — may fall behind due to a lack of understanding of how they learn. We were honored to photograph CAST UDL’s 9th annual conference in Downtown Denver to capture the front-line workers helping to create a Universal Design for Learning to overcome the unnecessary obstacles that some of our children face.
CAST is a nonprofit research group focused on forging new teaching methods to reach every learner, regardless of how they learn. The organization is nearing its 40th anniversary helping teachers and administrators, and they work on projects across the U.S. to improve student learning outcomes. From higher education centers in Michigan to career and technical skills (also in Michigan), and reading centers in California, CAST has created learning pathways for thousands of students to succeed.
We were honored to meet students who’ve found success thanks to teachers who have adopted a more inclusive universal design for learning to reach them. We can’t wait to see how current and future students thrive thanks to CAST’s UDL approach to bring successful learning to every student, regardless of circumstance.
