Malcolm Gladwell Taught Us This Week About the Power of Education—And Keynotes
Depending on who you talk to, lifelong learning is either extremely important—or a basic human right. Access to education is paramount to us here, and the rest of the world. But how do we ensure access to education when it’s increasingly expensive for many of us, and critical to our future workforce? That’s the message we heard from renowned author Malcolm Gladwell this week as we photograph the annual Ellucian conference in New Orleans. Gladwell’s opinion that money spent on education should be spent in areas to make it more accessible to others may not be everyone’s opinion, but keep in mind he’s made a career of wondering aloud, “Why?” when others just ask “What?”
His address was almost as captivating as it was thought-provoking. He’s a pro, we know. But it stressed to us what energy and ideas can do when they’re presented at an annual gathering. It set the table for provocative ideas in education (Ellucian’s field of work) and made for an interesting discussion as the conference went on. We love photographing that energy as it carries on throughout the week, and the difference is undeniable. The power of provocative ideas permeates an audience and creates an energy that’s unmistakable. We can’t get enough of it.
