Strong Ideas Last Forever
Construction has evolved a long way since the days of mud huts and straw buildings. That much is for sure. But in many ways, good ideas for construction have proven pretty timeless. Take, for instance, concrete as a building material. What was once a good idea for the Romans when they built the Pantheon is still a pretty good idea today.
We saw that firsthand at the annual Tilt-up Concrete Association conference a couple weeks ago in Phoenix. Tilt-up construction uses large concrete panels that are lifted into position with a crane and used for countless types of construction, including schools, libraries, offices, and warehouses. We admit the Romans probably didn’t use modern cranes to build their temples in the 2nd century, but we’re betting they would’ve if they had the means.
Nowadays, tilt-up construction techniques help contractors and businesses open faster, work smarter, and be more energy efficient. Using concrete for building materials? Turns out that was a pretty solid idea. (Pun intended.)
